The Wikipedia WarsA lot of people don't like Wikipedia because it is so easy to change the content there. How do you know that what you read at Wikipedia is correct? Many former contributors also complain that Wikipedia's admins don't know how to handle disputes between experts. Some news stories have told about famous people trying to correct errors in their profiles, only to see the errors restored by Wikipedia editors. Larry Sanger, who helped start Wikipedia, now wants to do it over the right way. He is launching a new site called Citizendium that he hopes won't be embarrassed by all the amatuerish content that has ruined Wikipedia. If you think Wikipedia is a good starting point for your Tolkien research, just think about about how many Tolkien experts are now helping out with it: none. |
